How to use SpeakFit

1. Download the voices once

Press Download the voices. They are about 100 MB and are saved in your browser's own storage, so you only do this once. After that, SpeakFit works offline. Delete the voices removes them again.

2. Paste or open text

Type or paste into the text box, or open a .txt file, a Markdown file or a saved web page (.html).

3. Pick a voice and press Play

Choose a voice and a speed, then press Play. Each sentence is highlighted while it is read. Click any sentence to jump there. Pause, Resume and Stop do what they say, and Edit text takes you back to the text box.

4. Read the page you're on (extension)

With the browser extension, click its toolbar button on any web page: SpeakFit opens with that page's text — or just the text you selected — ready to play. You can also right-click selected text and choose Read aloud with SpeakFit.

5. Save as audio (Pro)

Save as audio turns the whole text into a WAV file you can play on any device.

FAQ

Is it free?

Yes. SpeakFit reads any length of text for free with four natural voices (American and British, female and male). Pro (one-time) adds twelve more voices and saving speech as an audio file.

Is my text uploaded?

No. The voices run on your own device. The only download is the voice files, once, when you press Download the voices. After that, SpeakFit works offline.

Which languages can it read?

English, with American and British voices. Words in other languages are read with an English accent.

Can it read web pages?

Yes, with the browser extension: click its toolbar button on any page to hear the page (or just the text you selected), or right-click selected text and choose Read aloud with SpeakFit.
